Where the prices come from
Two sets of posted figures are used, and they are never mixed into one number:
- Installed starting rates (material plus installation, per sq ft of floor), from VFO's own cost calculator and pricing pages. VFO does not put a date on these; we read them on Oct 12, 2026.
- Material-only starting prices (per sq ft), the lowest posted price in each category on VFO's product and sale pages, posted Sep 28, 2026.
| Floor | Installed, starting at material + installation | Material only, starting at |
|---|---|---|
| SPC vinyl plank | $4.83 | $1.38 |
| Laminate | $5.13 | $1.88 |
| Porcelain tile | $6.28 | $1.28 |
| Carpet | $2.48 | $1.28 |
| Hardwood | Quoted after your free in-home measure. | Quoted after your free in-home measure. |
Sources: installed starting rates from VFO's cost calculator page (vegasflooringoutlet.com/las-vegas-flooring-cost-calculator), read Oct 12, 2026; VFO does not date them. Material prices from VFO's product listings (vegasflooringoutlet.com/products), posted Sep 28, 2026. The tile material price is a sale price on two 24×24 porcelain tiles. VFO posts no hardwood price online.
The figures are re-checked against vegasflooringoutlet.com whenever this site is updated, and the dates on every page show the last check. If anything here disagrees with VFO's site, VFO's site is right. VFO's own cost calculator uses the same installed rates.
The math
- Area. Length × width for each room, in feet (inches allowed as decimals), added together.
- Extra material. Area × (1 + extra %), rounded up to a whole square foot. Defaults: 10% for planks and carpet, 12% for tile. You can change it from 0% to 30%.
- Boxes. Only if you enter the sq ft per box from the carton: order ÷ coverage, rounded up. VFO doesn't post box coverage, so there is no default.
- Installed, starting at. Area × the posted installed rate. Applied to floor area, matching how the rate is posted.
- Material only, starting at. Order quantity × the posted material price, because you pay for the offcuts when you buy material.
Totals are rounded to the nearest dollar. Every result carries the label "Estimate. Final price after free measure."
What the estimate leaves out
VFO's starting rates exclude removal of old flooring, slab or subfloor prep, stairs and transitions, and depend on layout and site conditions. VFO posts no online price for these, so each shows "Quoted after your free in-home measure."
- Remove old carpet or vinyl
- Remove old tile from the slab
- Slab leveling or floor prep
- Moisture mitigation (if the slab tests wet)
- Stairs
- Baseboards or quarter-round
- Transitions at doorways
- Moving furniture
- Haul-away and disposal
- Hardwood (no posted price)
Sales tax, permits and HOA requirements are not included either.
What we don't collect
The calculator runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent anywhere. There are no cookies here and no tracking or analytics scripts in the page. When you tap "Send this estimate to VFO", your browser opens VFO's free-estimate page with the floor type, square feet, extra % and extras you picked in the link. Names, phone numbers and emails never go in a link; you enter those on VFO's page only if you choose to.
The 3D room
The room drawing and the 3D view are illustrations, not to scale. The 3D view only loads when you ask for it or start using the calculator, and it is skipped on devices set to reduce motion or save data.
Who publishes this
The Cost Planner is published by Vegas Flooring Outlet. It is a sales tool as much as a reference, which is exactly why the numbers are limited to what VFO already posts publicly. More on the about page.
